Behavioural/Data Science Intern – Summer 2025

London / remote (UK) hybrid
June 4, 2025

About the role

Join our Behavioural Innovation and Research team for a two-month paid internship focused on applied behavioural science and data analysis. You’ll contribute to real projects developing behavioural engagement tools — helping people overcome common biases and make better decisions. Your main project will explore relationships between financial personality traits (e.g., risk tolerance, confidence, composure) and individuals’ financial circumstances — including cash flows, investible, and non-investible assets. Additional correlates such as financial knowledge, investment experience, and sustainability considerations may also be explored.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to projects using data and behavioural insights to personalise financial advice
  • Analyse behavioural and financial data to inform tool and product development
  • Help design prototypes and document findings for internal and external audiences
  • Support communication of insights across teams (e.g. Product, Sales)
  • Learn about behavioural engagement and our approach to guiding investor decisions

What we're looking for

Required skills and experience

  • Postgraduate (or final-year undergraduate) study with strong quantitative elements — e.g. behavioural science, data science, economics, finance
  • Strong coding, analytical, and statistical skills — including Python (core data science libraries), data transformation and visualisation, and version control (Git)
  • Interest in applied behavioural or decision science
  • Ability to communicate complex ideas clearly
  • Organised, precise, and detail-focused

Good-to-have skills and experience

  • Behavioural finance or decision science
  • Financial services, particularly wealth management, financial advice, retirement, or self-directed investing
  • Survey design, psychometrics, or data visualisation
  • Basic familiarity with machine learning or data engineering concepts

You don’t need to have it all — we value curiosity and a broad toolkit. You’re more fox than hedgehog — someone who enjoys applying a range of skills to solve practical problems.

Why Oxford Risk?
